I’m pretty sure every small town in Canada has a memorial somewhere.

I think every city, town and village in the U.K. has one, and even the vast majority of schools, certainly ones that were around at that time.

It’s a shame so many walk past these memorials, plagues, etc... without stopping to read what’s on them or to take a moment to think what they represent and who and why.

Lest we forget those of yesterday, who gave their today’s, for our tomorrows.

We shall remember them, we will remember them.

I was an Airborne Cadet as a teen. I stood in blowing snow at attention for 2 hours one year . Old man moment coming at ya: I felt pretty damned honoured to do it too. Watching the ceremonies nowadays I really feel for those that hold the post for so long. And hearing the bugle and the artillery go off... It gets dusty.

My great Grandpa left for Britain and served as a pilot for the RAF in both WWI and WWII. He was gone long before I was born, but my Mom always kept a picture of him out in uniform. I always read the memorials when I come across a new one. Even if my friend s are just blowing past it. My wife knows this about me and will wait or subtly slow the group down.

I’ve been fortunate enough to lay a wreath at a ceremony, and went to the National War Memorial all four years I was in Ottawa. I don’t know how people can stand at attention for that long (S/Sgt. said to wiggle the toes and flex the muscles in your legs when you could, a pain to do in Strathcona boots), all the more respect for them.

I’ll always make time for the bugle on Remembrance Day.

This stumbled into my watch list today.

Thought you may find it interesting regarding war memorials.

It’s 25 minutes long so you may not want to watch any or all of it.
